Christmas at Tiffany's

Just a little film to showcase the lovely bracelet my Darling Hubby got me for Christmas. It is sooo delicate I'm a bit scared of breaking it but it is just so pretty.

I really wanted a pretty and dainty silver bracelet but had no joy in the shops I visited so went on-line on the off chance of finding something nice. Didn't think I'd find anything remotely affordable of Tiffany's but hey a girl can dream!

As is happened I found this little gem and shared my find by the magic of Facebook and voila, was rewarded Christmas day by my nearest and dearest.

Charlie and the Bird

Yesterday morning Charlie the cat came in meowing his head off. 
Hubby then shouts:  "He's had a bird" 
My reply "Is it dead?"
The bird wasn't dead but looked very shell shocked but not obviously hurt. I picked it up in a piece of kitchen towel, poor little thing was just a barely quivering bundle of feathers. So into a shoe box it went, hidden in the conservatory away from over keen moggies.
After a short while I went back to have a look at the bird and found it sitting up and looking much brighter. I decided to leave it a little while longer then see if it would fly off.
After about an hour I went back to the bird in the box. After opening the lid I made one of those silly noises you make at animals for want of a better idea to see if it would respond. 
It did respond... by flying out of the box straight into the conservatory window then flapping onto the doormat with me frantically trying to open the door to the conservatory. I don't know who jumped more me or the bird. As soon as the door was opened off flew the bird straight up over the garden fence and into a nearby tree.

Not that I think the cat was bothered as he spent the rest of the day fast asleep on the chair in the living room obviously pleased as punch at his offering. 
I'm not sure how he managed to catch it and bring it back with out any damage. Although he has a similar track record with mice which we have then had to release over the field.

I don't know what the bird was and stupidly didn't take a photo but it was wasn't very big and mostly mottled brown but with bright yellow feathers at its wing tips.

Just glad it wasn't the moggie with bird story we usually experience (when Lola is the predator) which never seem to have such a happy, if comical, ending.

Walter and Friends

In my last post (yes, I know it was ages ago, sorry) you were introduced to Walter, a lovely little felt cat made by Jen Smith. Well, Walter now has friends..... Wilfred, Wendy, Wilbur and Willy!

Walter looked a little lost and lonely on his own so a friend was needed and along came Wendy. 

Walter's new lady friend is a little package of hot pink happiness sure to raise a smile and certainly makes Walter very happy! 

Here she is modelling a pretty pink bead collar.

 

It seemed only fair to give them a few more friends so not that long ago 

Wilfred, Wilbur and Willy came to stay. 

Wiflred lodges with Walter and Wendy in the bookcase they call home. 

Wilfred is kitted out in a natty green jumper that looks lovely with his pale grey feltyness.

Wilbur's home is upstairs with my daughter who adopted him at the first opportunity!

Although at the moment he can be found chez Walter and Wendy 

(which is looking a little bit cramped!).

Wilbur sports a creamy white jumper that shows off his zingy bright green felt.

Last, but by no means least, is Willy in all his bright blue splendour!

Decked out in Tom Baker-esque scarf and hat (circa 1974-1981) he's more of a sci-fi cat than the others reflecting the tastes of the man who adopted him (my hubby!).

This is also shown in his current abode, on a bookshelf with Judge Dredd and Marvel comics to keep him entertained.

So here they all are in their new gear as supplied by my daughter!

I'm sure the circle of friends and family will be extended, already cousins,Wally and Wizlar (don't ask about the name as I have no idea!), have stayed briefly on their way to new homes as has GerTie who is testing out her new mobile home..

There are others out there just waiting to be adopted - loving homes only please!

Meet Walter,,,,,

Following on from my first post I thought I'd introduce you to another little handmade gem but this time found at Bristol Comic Con a few weeks back.

 Meet Walter a lovely little felt cat made by artist and illustrator Jen Smith.

The picture is a bit grainy (took using my phone when we came back from Bristol) but he is really sweet and his orangy-ness reminded me of our cat Charlie - who I am sure will feature on here in the not to distant future as will Lola his, slightly demented, friend.
Jen creates cute drawings and paintings of a variety of creatures and people too that will make you smile. Walter brings these lovely little beings to life! I'm hoping that she will be getting her Folksy store up and running soon as I would like Walter to have a friend (Just like Charlie has Lola even if they aren' t always nice to each other).

It's finding tables like Jen's that makes going along to comic cons enjoyable for me. I do love art work especially more illustrative styles and you can always find some great examples in a multitude of styles and subject matter from cute to creepy and every thing in between. Not to mention the lovely people you get to meet.
I'm not really a comic book nerd (yet) although I am currently reading Dragon Heir reborn by Emma Vieceli. My hubby on the other hand is a complete comic book nerd and the kids aren't turning out to be much different either so I go along for the day out and occasionally I find something, like Walter, I really like. So at least we all come away with a haul of something nice (Hubby-comics; son - comics, me - cute little knickknacks and art prints and daughter - anything she can possibly get her hands on: comics, badges, models and always a Genki Girl t-shirt!). 
But wandering around the tables at cons reminds me of being their age. My dad is a bit of a record nerd for want of a better phrase. This means that I spent many an hour of my pre-teen and teenage years in record stores and fairs so believe me comic cons are not so bad! I became very good at leafing through records and CDs trying to look as though I fitted in even though I must have stuck out like a sore thumb. It did mean though that as I got into rock music in its many variations I could acquire a decent collection of music. How could I know what excellent preparation this would be for in joining in with my hubby's pastimes or at least tagging along for the day out.

a little bit of inspiration....

I have been contemplating how to start off this foray into the blogging world for quite some time but haven't got round to putting the proverbial 'pen to paper'. As a keen reader of a number of other inspiring ladies who blog I thought I may as well have a go but needed a little bit of inspiration. Most of the blogs I follow have at some point have posted about something they have bought and shared with their blogging world so I thought I might as well do the same to start me off. All of the things featured were found via twitter!
First up is a really pretty piece of jewellery from the lovely Katie of Bijoux Dolly

The necklace arrived really quickly and gave me a much needed bit of inspiration for what to wear the next day!

Next up is certainly something to brighten your day. I absolutely love red lippy and was excited to find another to add to my growing collection. This a beautiful blue based red that tends to suit my rather pale skin tone. 

Rockalily is the brainchild of ReeRee Rockette. The one I bought was Rockette Red and in my opinion is an absolute winner. One of four capsule hues it is a lovely shade of red and it wears really well! Easily as good as any of the fancy cosmetic houses for quality and packaged in a very pretty box what's not to love. And finally still on the theme of pretty things is a pretty felt flower brooch handmade by Sarah designer and creator of Ditsy Bird Designs. 

The photo makes it look rather smaller than it is (width approx 7cm) and doesn't really do the delicate stitching and beading justice so I think I'll need to post a better picture at some point soon! The stitching is purple shade and the beads are shiny hot pink so it goes with lots of different things giving an outfit a bit of a lift.
